He tratado de pintar a mi nieto pero no he conseguido que se parezca. Además el tiene el pelo más rubio y según su abuela es más guapo.
Lo pintaré de nuevo, para que mi esposa no me regañe.

I tried to paint my grandson, but couldn't get it to look like him. Besides he has his hair more blonde and according to his grandmother is more gorgeous.

Comencé a pintarlo cuidadosamente y termine haciéndolo más suelto

Algunos artistas opinan que no es necesario que el retrato se parezca al modelo, porque cien años más tarde nadie recordará si se parecía. Lo más importante, en su opinión, es si se ha realizado correctamente.
Probablemente el modelo no pensará igual.
El dibujo no lo hice demasiado bien porque lo hice muy deprisa, me interesaba más pintar las sombras y los colores. Lo primero fue un lavado con algunos valores oscuros en húmedo sobre húmedo, luego pinté los valores medios y finalmente los más oscuros tales como los ojos y el pelo.

Some artists opine that a portrait need not look like the model, because hundred years later nobody remember if he resembles. The most important is, in your opinion, if it has been well realized.
Probably the model doesn't think so.
I didn't do the drawing too well. I did it hastily. My interest was in the shadows and colors. The first step was a clear washed with some dark values wet into wet, then I did the middle values and finally most dark values like eyes and hair

Otra vez hice este retrato de frma diferente de las anteriores. El primer lavado lo hice húmedo sobre húmedo cubriendo el lado izquierdo de la cara con un color más oscuro que el resto de la cara.
También puse colores frios en la barbilla y tuve cuidado de dejar zonas con valores más claros que el resto de la cara.
Cuando se secó, puse algunas sombras y pinté los ojos, el pelo, el sombrero y el pañuelo del cuello.
Yo creo que este modo de hacerlo es más dificil que los anteriores. pero todavía hay una forma más difil de hacerlo que es  pintarlo todo húmedo en húmedo, como lo hace Liu Yi.

Again I did this portrait in different way from the other ones. The first washed was done wet-into-wet to cover the left face side with a color darker than the rest of face.
 I also put the cold colors of the chin, all in one. I took care of leaving some zones with more clear values at the same time that I was painting  wet-into-wet.
When it was dried, I put some shadows and painted the eyes, the hair and the hat, and the cowboy's cravat.
In my opinion, this way of doing portraits is more difficult than the before ones.
There is other way most difficult to paint portraits  yet. It's to paint all wet-into-wet in one sesion as Liu Yi does it.

Este retrato lo hice de diferente modo que la última vez.
Mezclé los colores entre si en el papel en vez de en la paleta, comenzando con el Naranja y luego mezclándolo con Rojo Winsor sobre el papel. En algunos sitios puse Azul Cerúleo mezclado con los anteriores.
Los ojos y la boca los pinté cuando el papel estaba seco.
El pelo lo hice unas veces sobre seco y otras sobre húmedo.

I painted this portrait in different way that the last time.
I mixed one color with other on the paper instead of the palette, starting with Orange color, and then mixed it with Windsor Red on the paper. In some places I put Cerulean Blue mixed with the other ones.
The eyes and mouth were done finally when the paper was dry.
I did the hair on dry and on wet depending on the zone.

Este retrato lo hice sobre papel de boceto en tres etapas.
En la primera aplique un lavado muy diluido de rojo Winsor con un poco de Naranja. Lo dejé secar. Después pinte los valores medios con una aguada consistente de los mismos colores y un poco de verde Vejiga. Algunos bordes los puse difusos con un pincel con algo de agua. De nuevo lo deje secar.
Por último pinte los valores oscuros con los mismos colores, pero con las pinturas más espesas y finalmente los ojos con gris Payne con pintura cremosa.
El pelo lo pinté con azul Cerúleo y muy poco de Siena Tostada para conseguir un azul grisáceo.
El traje lo hice con Azul Ultramar, algo de rojo y Sombra tostada.
Esta es la forma fácil de pintar retratos. Otro día explicaré la difícil, pero será con otro papel.

I did this portrait on sketch paper in three stages.
First apply a very dilute wash of Winsor Red with a little  of Orange. I let it dry. Then paint the mean values with a consistent washed using  same colors and a very litle of  Sap Green. I did some fuzzy edges with a brush with some water. Again let it dry.
Finally I paint the dark values with the same colors, but with thicker paints, and finally his eyes with creamy paint of Payne Grey.
The hair was painted with Cerulean Blue and very little Sienna to obtein a grayish blue.
 I did his suit with Ultramarine, red and Burnt Umber.
This is the easy way to paint portraits.
Another day I'll explain the difficult, but It will be with another paper.
