Patio Cordobes

Hace unos días la Unesco concedió a los Patios Cordoboses como un nuevo lugar de Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Córdoba ya tiene también la Mezquita como Patrimonio de la Humanidad.
Esto que he pintado es un ejemplo de Patio Cordobés. Hay muchos tiestos con flores pintados generalmente con diferentes colores tales como azul. Aquí traté de pintar una buganvilla y tiestos colgando de las paredes. Naturalmente, los Patios Cordobeses tienen más plantas, fuentes y otros tipos de ornamentos tales como estatuas.
Una muestra muy buena de eso es el Palacio de Viana con varias clases de patios.
Y ahora aprovecho esta oportunidad para desear a todos unas Felices Navidades.

Some days ago, Unesco granted to the "Patios Cordobeses" as new the World Heritage site. Cordoba also  has already the Mosque as World Heritage.
This I've painted is an example of "Patio Cordobes".There are  many flowerpots painted generally with diferent colors like blue or other ones. Here I tryed to paint one bougainvillea and hanging flowerpots on walls. Of course, the "Patios Cordobeses" have more plants, fountains and other types of ornaments like for example statues.
A very good pattern of that is the "Palacio de Viana" with various kinds of patios.
And now, I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

 Pinté esta acuarela húmedo sobre húmedo y utilizando tres colores: azul ultramar, siena tostada y siena natural, que substituyen a los tres primarios, azul, rojo y amarillo.

This watercolor was painted wet into wet and using three colors: ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and raw sienna. substituting the three primary colors, blue, red and yellow.

Hice esta acuarela apartir de una foto que tomé duarante el taller de F. Castro en Caminha. En la playa de Caminha hay muchos árboles con formas retorcidas como este y el año pasado vimos en su estudio acuarelas que habia pintado con esos extraños troncos. Así que decidí pintar uno de esos. Bueno, el los pinto mejor.

I did this watercolor from a photo that I took in Caminha during the workshop with F. Castro. At the Caminha beach there are many trees with twisted forms like this, and last year we saw in his studio, watercolors he had painted  about these strange trunks. So that I decided to paint one of those. Well, he painted them better enough.

He vuelto de Caminha depués de asistir  al taller de acuarelas de Francisco Castro. Ahora estoy en Galicia hasta el fin de semana de modo que volveré a Madrid la próxima semana.
Había 17 colegas, algunos de ellos grandes pintores, tan buenos como Diego F. Colume y Guille Fernández además de otros. Jaime y Blanca también fueron, eran amigos de otros talleres. Todo el mundo pintó, nos reimos y lo mejor de todo, aprendimos un montón.
Mi esposa me dijo que nunca me había visto pintar tan mal y lo peor de todo es que era verdad.
Aquí está una de mis pinturas, verdaderamente es la única que puede mostrarse sin que se destruya mi reputación. Es broma, tios

I got back from Caminha after attending at Francisco Castro workshop. Now I am in Galicia until the weekend so that I'll go back to Madrid for the next week.
There were 17 collegues some of them great painters as good as Diego F. Colume and Guille Fernández in addition to others. Jaime and Blanca  also were, they were friends from other workshops. Everybody painted, we laughed, and the best of all, we also learned a lot.
My wife told me that ever had seen me to paint so bad and the worst is that it was true.
Here is one of my paintings, really it's the only which can be displayed without being destroyed my reputation. It's a joke, guys

Hice esta acuarela utilizando otra hecha en el taller de Sigüenza que impartió Javier Zorrilla. Fue un curso interesante y toda la gente aprendió un montón, además lo pasamos estupendamente. Yo aprendí tres cosas importantes. Una que es mucho mejor simplificar los detalles. Dos que es conveniente distinguir los planos del fondo de la media distancia y del primer plano. Por último algo que ya sabía que que siempre olvido, no insistir con las pinceladas

I did this watercolor using another done in Sigüenza's workshop that was imparted by Javier Zorrilla. It was an interesting course and all people attending  learnt a lot,  furthermore spending a good time.
I learnt three important things. One,  It's much better to simplify detail. Two, it's convenient to differentiate background,  middle ground and  foreground. Finally something I already knew but always I forget it, not insist with brushstrokes.
I don't like what I did at the workshop, but I'll utilize those watercolor for painting them again

Aprovechando que estoy en Galicia y que el tiempo es típicamente gallego, es decir llueve casi todos los días, he pintado este paisaje de una foto que tomé hace tiempo.
Tengo intención de pintar al aire libre y espero hacerlo antes de volver a Madrid. Este mes asistiré a un curso de acuarela que da Javier Zorrilla en Sigüenza. Si me gusta lo que haga lo pondré en el Blog, si no a la papelera.

Taking advantage of I'm In Galicia and the weather is galician typical, it's say is raining almost every days, I've painted this landscape from a photo I took  time ago.
I plan to paint outside, I hope can do it before go back to Madrid. This month I'll attend to a Javier Zorrilla's workshop at Sigüenza. If what I do I like, I'll post it if not, into the trash can

Pinté esto en la clase al aire libre de acuarela. La profesora me dijo que no estaba demasiado mal, asi que tendré que mandarla una caja de puros en Navidad.

I painted this at the watercolor outdoor class. The teacher said to me that it wasn't too bad, so that I'll have to send her a cigar box at Christmas days

Sombras en la pared/Shadows on the wall

Cuando era un niño yo siempre me preguntaba de que color era el color de las sombras. Ahora se que eso es bastante  más complicado. Normalmente empleo alguna de las muchas cosas que se pueden decir de las sombras. Las sombras que arrojan los objetos son cálidas si la luz es fría y frías si la luz es cálida. En realidad es más complejo que esto, pero yo puse en mis sombras colores azules y rojos mezclados con el color de la pared o del suelo.
Yo estoy totalmente convencido que si sabes pintar las sombras eres un gran pintor
Me gusta ver como ellos resuelven esos problemas, mis pintores favoritos al oleo están en mi blog y en la acuarela son muy pocos y lo peor de esto es que yo no soy uno de ellos, ja, ja..

When I was a child I always asked  myself what was the shadows color. Now, I know that's  complicated enough. I usually use some of many things that can be say about shadows. Cast shadows are warm if the light is cold and they are cold when the light is warm. Really is more complex than this, but I painted the shadows with colors blue and  red mixed with the color of the wall or  soil.
I strongly think that if you learn to paint shadows, you are a great  painter.
I like to see how they work out those problems, my favorite oil painters are in my blog, and in watercolor are very few and the worst of this is I'm not one of them, He, He..

Bailaora/Flamenco dancer

Pinté cuatro bailaoras hace algún tiempo, dos en óleo y las otras en acuarela. Esta es la quinta en acuarela. Me interesaba pintar su movimiento, pricipalmente su chal, pero la condenada no paraba de moverse, así que hice lo que pude. Es broma, tios.

I painted four "bailaoras" some time ago, two of them in oil and other ones in watercolor. This is the fifth in watercolor. I was interested in painting her movement , chiefly her shawl, but the damn "bailaora" didn't stop moving so I did what I could. I'm kidding guys

El desafío de esta semana era recortar una fotografía para elegir un tema . Elegí esta terraza . He cambiado la luz y algunos colores de la foto como hago casi siempre.

The challenge of this week is cropping a picture to choose a theme. My option was this terrace. I've changed the light and some colors from the picture, as almost  I always do.

Creo que es casi imposible saber que clase de flores son, pero no importa. Me gustaban sus colores y tenía ganas de pintarlas

I think it's almost impossible to know which sort of flowers are but it doesn't matter. I liked its colors and I really wanted to paint them.

Española en Semana Santa/Spanish woman at Easter

Ya es primavera, es Semana Santa y ya está lloviendo como siempre.
Pero he pintado esta española sin paraguas, porque precisamente en ese momento el sol brillaba. Tuvo suerte.

It is spring, it's Easter, and it's raining, as usual.
But I've painted this spanish woman, without umbrella, because just in that moment the sun was shining. She was lucky.

Manzana roja/ Red apple

Aúnque no lo parezca he estado pintando  algunas acuarelas, algunas están en la papelera, pero hoy he encontrado un nuevo desafio en DPW y he terminado esta manzana. El objetivo del desafio era pintarla con tan pocas pinceladas como se pudiese.

Although It doesn't seem, I've been painting some watercolors, some of them are into paper bin, but today I've found a new challenge  in DPW and I've just finished this red apple. The objective of this challenge was to paint an apple using as few brushstrokes as you can.

He vuelto de un corto viaje a Cordoba, donde tomé varias fotos. Esta acuarela pertenece a una de ellas. Es uno de los lugares del rio Guadalquivir.
Cuando la he terminado me he dado cuenta que la composición no es buena. Así que trataré de pintarlo otra vez en otro dia, pero también es posible que sea peor. Veremos.

I came back from a short trip to Cordoba, where I took several photos. This watercolor belongs to one of them. It represents one place of the  Guadalquivir river.
When, I've just finished I realize that the composition is not good. So I'll try painting again in other day, but It's also possible that still can be worst. Wait and see.

I tried to paint  different edges, some are hard and others are soft.

Mi nieta Amalia/ Amalia my granddaughter

Por supuesto, he pintado mi nieta a partir de una foto, no del natural. La pintura de retratos precisa un dibujante bastante y yo todavía no lo soy. Quizás mañana(bolero)

Of course, I've painted my granddaughter from a picture not from natural. Paintings of portraits require a good enough draftsman and still I'm not .  Quizás mañana(bolero) /Perhaps, tomorrow (bolero)

Con esta pintura estoy recordando cuando subía a las montañas hace tiempo. Ahora prefiero pasear por la playa.

With this painting I'm remembering when time ago I climbed to mountains. Now I prefer walking around the beach.

He pinatdo otra vez el mismo tema del otro día: rocas, hierbas y agua.

I've painted again the same theme that the other day: rocks, grass and water.

Mandarinas/Tangerines

Parecen naranjas, sin embargo son mandarinas. Si tratas de comerlas encontrarás un fuerte sabor a mandarina, de modo que no se confunda son mandarinas.

They look like oranges, nevertheless, are tangerines. If you try to eat them, you'll find a strong taste to tangerine, so that not get confused what I've painted are tangerines.

Paisaje nevado/ Snowy landscape

Para esta acuarela utilicé tres colores: amarillo, rojo y azul.
Se hizo con el método de R. Roycraft. Primero enmascaré las zonas de luz. Cuando estaba seco, humedecí el papel con un humedificador y  vertí la primera veladura de color amarillo con un platillo. Una vez que la primera veladura esta seca, seguí vertiéndo las siguientes capas de rojo y azul dejando secar cada una antes de la siguiente.
Durante este proceso, es necesario inclinar el tablero para permitir que los colores vayan corriendo sobre el papel y usando el humedificador para ajustar los colores.
Finalmente, si es necesario, retoco algo con mi pincel.

For this watercolor I used three colors: yellow, red and blue.
It was done using the R. Roycraft method. First, I masked the light zones. When it's dry, I wet the paper with one sprayer, and the first layer of yellow color is poured with a saucer. Once the first layer is dry, I go on pouring the next layers of red and blue leaving each one dry before next layer.
During this process,  It is necessary tilting the board to permit the colors  go running  on the paper and keep using the sprayer to adjust the colors.
Finally, if it's necessary,  I retouch something with my brush.
